Hope to have you join our Haunted Overnight excursion there on August 9th-10th 2008.
The Death Tunnel or Body Chute is where bodies were taken after passing away at the Sanatorium. This was due to the fact that the morgue on site, as well as the extra rooms set aside for the bodies had been over filled. At the bottom of the Death Tunnel (which extends 525 feet downhill) there was a set of railroad tracks. The bodies were then taken by rail car into town to the local funeral homes to await burial. Many people have heard sounds, seen lights while walking in the tunnel.
I will have to say that it was pretty eerie! This is would be what I consider a paranormal hot spot.
Most people entered the tunnel the night I was there and ventured about 20 feet inside and turned around.
The view from the 5thg floor rooftop is amazing -even at night. What is incredible is the fact that this was where the children AND the mentally ill patients congregated together....to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Both were considered treatments for TB at the time.
